This article focuses on the economic conditions of the U.S. The U.S. Federal Reserve Board's index of industrial production, most fundamental of all the business indices, jumped from 66 per cent of the 1923-25 average in September, 1932, to 84 a year later, but is now back to 71 percent below the 1932 level. Unemployment has been somewhat reduced over the two-year interval but is considerably higher than at the same period in 1933. Agricultural production, upon which teal living standards are largely dependent, is lower than it has been for nearly a generation.
