This article focuses on the book "A Social and Religious History of the Jews," by Salo Wittmayer Baron. The writer has traced the fundamental social trends in Jewish life from ancient Biblical times to the present day. His approach to Judaism and Jewish history is sociological. It deal with the origins of tribal Israel, the expansion of Judaism, the life of Jews in the Diaspora within and without the ghetto walls and the emancipation of Jews. All these stages in the long historic evolution of the Jewish people are scientifically analyzed from the point of view of the interrelation of social and religious forces in Judaism.
