This article focuses on the book "Life of John Keats," by Charles Armitage Brown. At long length, fully sixteen years after the death of poet John Keats, this memoir was made public, as the first full-length biography of Keats, in the form of a lecture delivered at Plymouth Hall. Many letters already familiar through use in subsequent biographies may here be seen in their original context, nor have they ever spoken more movingly than when they are employed, as here, as a substitute for the biographer's own perplexities and inarticulateness.
