This article presents information about several books. In the book "Heritage," George F. Hummel has chosen for his theme the ambitious one of a German family striking roots in mid-nineteenth-century America and developing into the second generation. In the second book "Second Hoeing," by Hope Williams Sykes, the story has to do with the daughter of an immigrant German-Russian farmer, Hannah Schreissmiller, whose loyalty to the hard life of land and family drudgery constrains her to reject a fine marriage with the well-to-do, romantic young American that she loves. Other books are "Condemned to Live," by Johann Rahener; and "A Rebel War Clerk's Diary."
