This article presents books "The Harp That Once," by Howard Mumford Jones; and "The Minstrel Boy," by L.A.G. Strong. The author says that, these books are two well-printed and brightly jacketed biographies of Tom Moore, an author, both written in a style called "readable" or "informal" and yet both requiring persistent effort to bring the reading of them to a decent close. The author finds it surprising to find two biographies, both with a cheerful title, rather more than slightly dull. The author says that he suspects the first difficulty arose with the mistaken attempt to give Moore stature if not greatness, to assume that the dull society of fashionable London during the Regency had a standard for literature worthy of respect.
