The article presents information on two books on Vladimir Ilich Lenin, the communist leader of Soviet Union. These books are "The Life of Lenin," by P. Kerzhentsev and "Lenin," by Christopher Hollis. Both authors try to explain Lenin as the rroduct of his early family life, an undertaking to which the Russian author, thanks to his closer contacts with Russian social and political life, brings the greater measure of comprehension and understanding. Holles' portrayal of the great Lenin is the much more understanding of the two. In contrast with the bleakness of Kerzhentsev's presentation it is warm and human, filled with a deep appreciation of the courage and the vision that created the new Russia.
