The recent election of Frank Graham, over his protest to the presidency of the University of North Carolina, to succeed Harry W. Chase, who goes to the presidency of the University of Illinois, is viewed generally as an event of immense educational significance for the South of the U.S. Graham's sympathetic and broad understanding of functions of a university in a modern State heartens his colleagues and the other friends of education. Graham's keen sense of social justice has been conspicuously illustrated in connection with the recent industrial conflicts in North Carolina. He has lectured and written and talked with leaders as a flaming apostle of a better social order in a State that now has new problems to face.
