The article presents information related to some books in the United States. "Mark Twain, Son of Missouri," by Minnie M. Brashear, talks of Mark Twain as an American figure who has seemed free from European influence. His idea has been a keystone in most writing about him. In this study, Brashear has assembled a mass of evidence to show that elements of European culture, particularly of the 17th and 18th centuries, had a place in Hannibal. Both "The Thin Man," by Dashiell Hammett, and "The Postman Always Rings Twice," by James M. Cain, have been received with unrestrained excitement and loud acclaim.
