This article critically appraises the book "The Social Cost of Industrial Insurance," by Maurice Taylor. This is the first comprehensive survey of industrial insurance from the social point of view. Particularly interesting is the history of burial insurance, which developed from friendly and burial societies. The volume has an amazingly comprehensive bibliography, and indices of subjects and authorities, with much original material, including an authoritative mortality table which indicates an actual mortality so low as to cast doubt on all present day life-insurance cost and practice.
