The article focuses on the book "The Letters of David Hume," edited by J.Y.T. Greig. The book contains 548 of the philosopher's letters, of which 59 have never been published before, and of which 120 have been published only imperfectly. In addition, there is a very extensive appendix containing some of the most important letters to flume from various correspondents. The character of Hume is far from complex, was very simple and transparent one. The letters as a whole, however, are disappointing in one important respect: though they are written with the dulcet lucidity that distinguishes Hume's books and essays, they tell much more about him as a man than as a thinker.
