This article focuses on the book "Cradle of Life," by Louis Adamic. "Cradle of Life" is a second novel, told in the first person of Rudo Stanka, an illegitimate descendant of the Hapsburg line, son of a Moravian countess and Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria. Under the shadow of mystery attending illegitimate birth, readers are led to expect a romance as fantastic as the story of "A Prisoner of Zenda." Illegitimate birth is followed by exploits in which men faint and out of which good, old-fashioned Balkan heroes and heroines are made.
