The article discusses books and authors. Today the future of the United States is generally admitted to be bound up with the future of the people on the other side of the Pacific. Americans have been nationally interested, and occasionally absorbed, in China for many years, but for the first time since the United States became a Pacific power, it can no longer afford not to know what China is about, and what the Chinese people really are like. What one wants at this point is to hear the "inside story" from an unpretentious and representative American. Edgar Snow is such an American and he has given us the inside story in "Red Star Over China."
