The article discusses the U.S. president's State of the Nation address. U.S. president Franklin D. Roosevelt's State of the nation address was among the sharpest commentaries on the functioning of the capitalist economy that any President has sent to the U.S. Congress. In form and temper it marks an abrupt departure from the demoralized Administration mood of the past several months. In terms of actual program, however, there was little to put one's teeth into that had not already been discussed in previous messages. Despite the "candor" of his phrases, the President is clearly marking time in foreign affairs.
