The article discusses the political upheaval in France. The first Popular Front government was over- thrown from without; the second collapsed from within. In June 1937, it was the defeated minority that struck the blow at socialist L. Blum; recently, statesman Camille Chautemps surrendered to the left wing of his own majority. On the surface, the two events are quite unrelated. In fact the one followed logically and inevitably from the other. With the departure of Blum, the soul had gone out of the left coalition.
