Outstanding among recent releases is a music record of musician Modest Petrovich Moussorgsky's songs. The best order to hear the songs is to begin with "Pride" and "Ballade" and then go on with the cycle "Sunless" in reverse order, from number 6 to number 1. Also, notable is the beautiful voice and phrasing of singer Moshe Rudinov. "Ballade" is also in the Parlophone subscription set, along with other songs of Moussorgsky, including the "Songs and Dances of Death." These are not so much sung as snarled and growled through clenched teeth melodramatically by singer Vladimir Rosing.
