Protests from citizens of New York are flooding the desks of the Police Commissioner, Major General John Francis O'Ryan, and of Mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia. These protests are occasioned by police brutalities clubbings of demonstrators, including bystanders, men, women, and children; the ruthless suppression of picketing of taxi drivers, bakery workers, and other strikers, and brutality against individuals not connected with any labor disturbances. Hardly a day passes but that one sees headlines in the metropolitan press dealing with police brutalities. Here is an example taken from the World-Telegram of July 13, 1934 which reads. "Police Brutality Caused Stillbirth Says Mother, Charging She Was Beaten During Relief Riot."
