The article comments on various books. Some of the books are: "Lincoln the Man," by Edgar Lee Masters and "Lincoln and His Cabinet," by Clarence Edward Macartney. "Lincoln the Man," in short, is a political diatribe such as might have come out of the remotest quarters of the antebellum South, carried forward into the years of political and social confusion after the Civil War. That it is not a more worthy performance is sincerely to be regretted, for Masters had an inviting opportunity. The book "Lincoln and His Cabinet," is a collection of eight biographical sketches, pleasantly written and sensibly patriotic, but without essential novelty either in matter or in point of view.
