After owing money for four years, the school board of Chicago, Illinois has finally paid its teachers, 75 per cent of a year's salary in one lump sum. The newspapers have been telling how happy and excited teachers are. Teachers are about to take belated vacations, they said, and indulge in an orgy of buying. The $22,500,000 is expected to turn over five or six times in a few weeks, making a whirlwind of prosperity for the city. The approval of the RFC loan by Jesse Jones two weeks ago was the signal for rejoicing, and two weeks' pay for spending money at Teachers' Jubilee Day at the World's Fair was handed out promptly.
