Kay Boyle's new novel "Death of a Man," develops as far as it can go the theme of a short story in "The White Horses of Vienna." In both cases a young Austrian doctor works secretly to further the cause of German leader Adolf Hitler in the southern mountains and in both cases there is the attempt on the part of Boyle to hypnotize the reader into a state of what may be called mystical fascism. The icy art for which she is celebrated warms up as best it may to a contemporary and a social subject matter.
