The article discusses books and authors. In "Footnotes to the Film" editor Charles Davy has brought together a number of lively and pertinent articles on European and American movies, grouped under four heads: Studio Work-How a Film Is Made; Screen Material-Help from Other Arts; Film Industry Problems, and Films and the Public. The book starts well with British film director Alfred Hitchcock, who explains his methods and some of the climaxes in his films and analyzes his first talkie, "Blackmail."
