This article presents information about the book "Constitutional Government and Democracy," by Carl J. Friedrich. No problem of the art and artifice of government and of the relation of government to the economic, cultural, and social vitalities of life remains unillumined by this comprehensive work on constitutional theory and practice. Some of the issues analyzed in the book include: the problems of representative government, the relation of the judicial to the executive and legislative functions, the relative merits of written and unwritten constitutions, and the issue of federalism as against centralism.
