Abstract

The Liberal's War

This article focuses on various current socio-political and industrial issues in the U.S. in context of war and in comparison to the political history. It describes that politics has never more notably justified its reputation as the maker of strange bedfellows than in the current fight against all-out aid to Britain. The brunt of that battle is being borne by an inorganic but none the less- effective alliance between radicals and reactionaries, liberals and conservatives-a left-right coalition. The assumption that big business was largely responsible for the last war and that, given half an international crisis, it would go hell-bent for another has been for twenty years one of American liberalism's most prized cliches.
