Columbia gives two fine piano sonatas of Mozart K. 332, with its exquisite first movement, and K. 576, with Mozart's most developed, most complex writing for the keyboard--played by Casadesus in the fluent, polished, anemic style in which French pianists think it proper to play Mozart Set 433. The sound of the piano is well recorded; but there is an occasional indistinctness in high notes, and with a light pickup there is an occasional rattle. And Mozart's superb String Quartet K. 458 is recorded not, as one would wish, by the Budapest Quartet, but by the Roth Set 438.
