The article assesses what has and has not been done in moving pictures, particularly those made in the U.S. during the year. According to the author, "Desert Victory" is unquestionably the best film of the year, but it is the result of a great subject handled rather with thorough cinematic common sense than with cinematic creative energy. "Battle of Russia," next to "Desert Victory," is the best film of the year. But like the other orientation films it is saturated with words and only begins to use possibilities of the screen, as such, to show and teach. And like all others it can make one sick to the very soul with its political timidity.
