The article presents information on the condition of John Jones, an American, 10 years ago. He used to get little money regularly. Not much -- but enough. He used to go to bed every night with nothing in his mind except the fun he is going to have next day. During the second year of war, he needed cash. Taxes were tough, and then his friend got sick. Like almost everybody else, he was buying War Bonds through the Payroll Plan -- and he figured on cashing some of then in. It was his friend who talked him out of it.
