This article focuses on the book "One Man's Meat," by E.B. White. Between July 1938 and December 1941, while the Second World War was getting under way, Mr. White was turning his place in Maine from a vacation retreat into a working farm with thickens, pigs, and sheep. He still had to earn his living by writing, and the essays in this volume were composed on the run, as it were, between the hen-house and the radio. An individual and a gentleman, he isn't out to sell the idea that a farm is any man's meat.
