The War Fronts

The new offensive on the western front looks like the real thing, a carefully planned, well-mounted general offensive designed to bring Germany to defeat in 1944. As this is written, it is far too early to judge how well the design will succeed, but it obviously will not fail for lack of organized effort or will. U.S. General Dwight D. Eisenhower has again shown himself a master of surprise, that key military characteristic which has been widely revived in this war after a pretty general eclipse in the last. The surprise in this case was not only as to the time and place of attack but as to the whole offensive itself.
