The Kilgore committee's new report on cartels and national security is given added point by the international business conference, which has just been held at Rye, New York. The National Association of Manufacturers, the United States Chamber of Commerce, the National Foreign Trade Council, and the American section of the International Chamber of Commerce called the conference. Newspaper correspondents like lesser men have a natural disposition to see events in the light of their own prophecies. Nowhere has this tendency been more evident than in recent dispatches from Paris, France. Reporters who before the liberation were anti-Gaullist, or at least solemnly skeptical about the strength of the French leader, are today sending home dispatches which dramatize, if they do not exaggerate, the difficulties General Charles de Gaulle is experiencing with the resistance elements.
