Turkey is Not Neutral

One is hard put to catch the historical mood of the moment in a world in which the only quiet and unchanging spot is the no man's land between the Maginot and Siegfried lines. Even that may no longer be true after some time. Indeed, a great many things may be changed soon. But some things are certain: returning to Turkey after an absence that coincided with the outbreak of the war and the signature of the Anglo-French-Turkish pact, the article author finds that the country has taken a turn in a very definite direction. Turkey today is not neutral. It is, like Italy and will be perhaps for as long as Italy-non-belligerent. To one who has been following developments in Turkey during the past few years there is nothing startling in this fact, particularly when one remembers that Turkey is pro-Ally but not anti-Soviet Union. Interesting revelations of the new mood in Turkey are found in the daily press.
