The article presents information on the book "Sowing the Dragon's Teeth: Land Mines and the Global Legacy of War" by Philip C. Winslow. Sowing the Dragon's Teeth tells how landmines, by furthering the displacement of refugees and the destabilization of society, became integral to the culture of permanent war. No matter who signs what at peace talks, there can be no peace as long as mines remain in the ground. Even more than direct force, the delayed, anonymous, random violence of mines introduces an uncertainty that continues long after "hostilities" cease. If war is a social disease, then landrnines are a virus that attacks the social immune system, undercutting the very idea of peace.
