The article presents information on the book "James Joyce: Two Decades of Criticism," edited by Seon Givens. On the whole, James Joyce has suffered from a curious ineptness in his critics, a failure of perception in his Eckermann-like friends. Nevertheless, it would be unjust to conclude that Givens's collection of nineteen essays will not be found useful, perhaps indispensable, as the only one of its kind in English; or that several studies, excellent within their limits, are not at hand. There are no English critics of weight or judgment who consider Joyce an author of any importance, are disposed of, once for all.
