The article discusses post-war Europe. Whenever people try to picture conditions in post-war Europe, the idea is put forth that political and criminal gangs will play an important role. Confirmation for this view is found in the German media of June 18, 1943, in an item reporting the arrest of thirty members of a robber band which had established itself in Duisburg, Germany, or rather the ruins of Duisburg. Their leader was a certain Willi Springfield who had deserted from the army and been sought in vain ever since. One of the members was the owner of a city-wide freight business, and his trucks were valuable equipment for the gang's activities.
