This article focuses on political and economic conditions in Argentina during 1949. The international role of the Argentine dictatorship can be cited in the agitation against the U.S., which rises and falls in accordance with the needs of the regime for American dollars. Juan Perón, President of Argentina hates the U.S., but when the shortage of dollars becomes severe, he avows his love for the American people and the Washington administration. Internal Argentine developments in 1949 were not less disturbing. The economic difficulties which became serious in the second half of 1948 put a stop to the large-scale reconstruction of the nation As matters grew worse, the regime dropped its pro-worker, social-revolutionary mask. Argentina is suffering both a financial and an economic crisis.
