How the Communists Rule

The article focuses on the Communist rule in Shanghai. When Communist troops were closing in on Shanghai last May, a newspaperman told the author that he intends to stay and watch Shanghai corrupting the Communists. Today it is cleat that reporters' "Shanghai experience" has not affected Communists, unless to make them even more revolutionary, but a leaner, harder Shanghai awaits Western recognition. Shanghai residents were first impressed by the strict discipline of the Communist troops. Exhausted with marching as they were, they slept on the hard pavements rather than impose on citizens and insisted on paying for everything, even hot water. The industry and austerity of the Communist political workers also stood out conspicuously.
