This article provides information about two books related to church and state. The books are "Separate Church and State," by Joseph M. Dawson and "Separation of Church and State in the United States," by Alvin W. Johnson and Frank H. Yost. These two books, although they consider wider horizons, are chiefly useful as ammunition on the con side of the Catholic issue. Dawson has written a fighting tract for a militant Protestantism, an appeal to meet the Catholic challenge head on. The Johnson-Yost book, a revision of an earlier work by Johnson, is a carefully documented summary of the legal story of the American controversies on Bible reading, released time, religious garb in public schools, the bearing of arms by religious persons, the saluting of the flag, and the enforcement of Sunday laws.
