This article focuses on the book "History, a Guide to Peace," by Erno Wittmann. Few scholars could claim that subsequent events have verified their preconceived political theories of history. Wittmann, who thirty, years ago in his "Past and Future of the Right of National Self-Determination" predicted that this principle of the Paris Peace Conference would not succeed in settling the problems of war-torn Europe, is one of them. Now the author faces an even more formidable predicament, and anyone not bent on the universal suicide of mankind can but hope that his predictions and suggestions will once more be borne out.
