The article focuses on the book "The Yale Edition of Horace Walpole's Correspondence," edited by W.S. Lewis, George L. Lam, and Charles H. Bennett. This is the first new installment of the Walpole letters to appear in four years. In the introduction the chief editor casually hopes that "we shall now be able to press forward and finish the remaining forty or so volumes by 1965." Such a remark gives some hint of the scope of the task and the almost princely magnificence with which the whole enterprise is being carried out.
