Spring Peace Note

Bourdet, Claude | January 29, 1949 issue

The article presents information related to political conditions in France and Russia. Old Marcel Cachin's friendly speech in Parliament and the present tone of the French Communist press are most interesting. They seem to point toward a new "peace policy." But is it really new? The anti-Communist version is, naturally, that Soviet Union wants to placate Western fears only to ruin the West by underground work through the Cominform. This is a very primitive view of things. Behind all this was the battle between the forces controlling Russia's heavy industry.
