This article focuses on the book "The Old Beauty and Others," by Willa Cather. In this book, three stories by Cather, had been published. The author says that, the story "Before Breakfast," though it is very slight, at least has the fiber and articulation of a created work of art. The other two, the title story and "The Best Years," give the impression of being mementos rather than new thrusts of Cather's talent. So much so that one feels that they might almost have been written by a devoted understudy.
