This article focuses on the international relations of Greece with the U.S. This month marks two events in the history of modern Greece-the 127th anniversary of the beginning of the Greek War of Independence and the completion of the first year of American control. However, the White House is more discreet regarding its policies on Greece. In U.S. President Harry S. Truman's Second Report to the U.S. Congress on Aid to Greece and Turkey, dated February 16, 1948 one section is headed "The Military Situation," but it does not give the picture presented by American correspondents in Greece.
