This article focuses on various political issues. The sudden dramatic shift of General Douglas MacArthur from his beleaguered outpost on Bataan Peninsula to supreme command of the Allied forces in the Pacific will have a tonic effect everywhere. His qualities of leadership have become an example throughout the U.N. and even among the forces of the Axis. The most hopeful aspect of the new British plan to secure India's cooperation in World War II is the choice of the envoy who will present it to the Indian people. Sir Stafford Cripps is the one member of Winston Churchill's Cabinet who can be regarded as an enthusiastic champion of Indian freedom, and his selection for this mission has been widely approved.
