No office boy anxious to keep his job would dare whistle anywhere neat a broker's board room, for Wall Street's motto for the emergency is "Keep 'em sighing." For many months stock prices have been trending downward in the face of a huge rise in production, handsome increases in profits for most industries, and numerous additional dividends. In view of the fact that the long-term war outlook has improved tremendously during the past six months it is hardly possible to blame the war news for the current bearishness.
