The columned Chapel Hill Presbyterian church, with its five hundred seats, could not hold the University of North Carolina students who flocked to it on Sundays drawn by the message and the personal magnetism of the minister, the Reverend Charles Miles Jones. Small numbers of African Americans have attended the Chapel Hill church during the pastorate of Jones, who is a native of Tennessee, as they did under other ministers. Students and professional groups found the church open to them for non-segregated lectures and meetings.
