Because as in the music-hall song that gave the word "jingo" to the English language—the British have "got the ships, got the guns, and got the money too," they are on the verge of establishing military control in Kenya, even though it is publicly admitted that "pockets" of Mau Mau in the forests may continue resistance for as long as another ten years. Ever since a state of emergency was tardily proclaimed in October 1952, the British have been in the habit of speaking of their "two-pronged attack" upon the situation.
