This article focuses on the recovery and reconstruction of Poland after the destructions of the second world war. The destruction in Poland was greater than in any of the other occupied countries, with the exception of the occupied parts of the Soviet Union. The westward shift has changed the whole basis of Poland's economy; it will no longer be a great grain-growing country. Instead, it will became one of the major dairy-farming, stock-breeding, industrial countries of the Continent; and it is felt that, in the balance, Poland will have gained. The people have a sharp urge to make a success of their coherent and economically harmonious country.
