The obscurity which has veiled the Soviet zone of Germany for so long has lately begun to be lifted. It is obvious that the amount of dismantling and transporting of factories carried out by the Russians will depend on. the actual time they intend to remain in Germany. The waste of the operation, after all, is enormous, it is estimated at from 50 to 80 per cent. And in addition the removals place a tremendous strain on a transportation system already inadequate and partially crippled by war-time destruction.
