On December 2, 1944, the Hood River, Oregon, Post of the American Legion removed the names of sixteen Japanese Americans from the honor toll of the community. Among the Legion posts most deeply concerned was Hollywood World War II Post No. 591, with a membership of approximately four hundred. Following the issuance of this bulletin, Post 591 at a regular meeting held on January 9, 1945, unanimously adopted a strong resolution condemning Hood River Post and formed a group to fight collectively against the Legion. One of the members William Kent felt rather proud of the good work his committee had done.
