The article focuses on the book "I See a New China," by George Hogg. Hogg writes of a China that is new-born and vigorous, a China that is little concerned with either Kuonaintang or the Communists. His New China is that of the industrial cooperatives, located principally in the northwest. Few Westerners have had Hoggs opportunity to know war-time China from within. Before reaching the northwest he spent weeks in the guerrilla areas of Shansi and visited the headquarters of Chu Teh, legendary commander-in-chief of China's Red Army. He shared the dangers and hardships of the Chinese who were turning out great quantities of war materials under the very noses of the Japanese.
