The article focuses on the book "Dewey, An American of This Century," by Stanley Walker. It focuses on the life and work of the U.S. District Attorney Thomas Edmund Dewey. It presents a picture of Dewey as a farm hand, at the age of seventeen, when he worked one summer for Earl Putnam, who also has his picture in the book talking to his ex-hired man. Dewey picked up a lot of the inside stuff about international affairs that makes his speeches on that subject so crystal clear. Just before going on this momentous trip on a bicycle, Dewey sang in a synagogue. Walker admits this, but says that his candidate in those days sang in all sorts of places.
