Columbia has issued, for September 1943, Peter Serkins performance of Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata Opus 27 No. 2, which was recorded here and the performance of Konzertstuck for piano and orchestra and an orchestra, which was recorded abroad and issued here a number of years ago and which is now featured as Columbia's record classic of the month. If anyone heard Serkin's performance of the sonata in a concert hall he would find it well conceived as a whole, though one would be disturbed by occasional crudities of inflection and sentimental retardations.
